Welcome to the Indiana Chapter – Lincoln Highway Association

Welcome to our web page! We hope you will find great utility in our links and content.

Dear Lincoln Highway Friends,

As we approach the end of the year and enter 2024, we have much to be thankful for in our lives and across northern Indiana on the Lincoln Highway. We have 5 modern-day Control Stations to help visitors understand the routes and interesting stops along the LH in Indiana (Merrillville, La Porte, South Bend, Ligonier, and Fort Wayne).  We have replaced multiple LH Byway road signs lost due to weather, road rerouting, or unfortunate accidents, so our local and national travelers can find their way across the state. We continue to have dialogue with city leaders in several sites about new kiosks and other ways to further highlight the exceptional sightseeing opportunity the LH presents. And, of course, we have been planning to host the 2024 National LHA Conference here in Indiana—it will be quite the show!

Our source of funds for accomplishing any new marketing or maintenance projects continues to be primarily from our individual and corporate membership.   Here are a few things we are planning to fund in 2024:

  • Our BYWAY sign budget has run dry and we need to raise another $2000 to fund replacements and additions.
  • We need to raise $500 to hold a celebration in Lake County for a new bridge with Lincoln Highway embossed across it—and honor Art Schweitzer who designed the embossing on three Lake County bridges.
  • We need to raise $2000 in support of an outsourced Web Master to maintain our web presence.
  • We need to raise $3000 more in support of the National LHA Conference in June (we will be in virtually every LH county during the Conference showing off our roads, our venues, our food and our people). We have raised $6000 to date but want to keep costs low for both our in-state and out-of-state attendees.

We do not expect you to foot all of the bills noted here, but hope you can find a way to contribute. We have a lot of great things to do! If you want your donation directed specifically to one of these projects, that’s fine…or if you just want it directed to the INLHA and allow us move it to the area most needed, that’s good too. A donation form is enclosed for your convenience.

Regardless, thank you for being a member and/or friend of our Association.  We appreciate you and hope to see you at the National Conference for some or all of it, or at the bridge rededication ceremony in Lake County when announced, or just out on the road together.

Can you help us with a donation? Even $5 or $10 would greatly help. All donations are tax deductible, as the INLHA is a 501 (c) (3) organization for IRS purpose. You can use the PayPal “Donate” button below with a credit card even if you don’t have a PayPal account:

  1. Not sure who to contact about a concrete LHW sign that might get overlooked in the new list coming out soon. It is hidden with bushes and located near Plymouth, Indiana on old Lincoln Hwy. west near Donaldson In.
